Anashua Majumdar will be seen playing a crucial role in the upcoming Bengali film Tarikh directed by Churni Ganguly. The Kolkata Mail correspondent caught up with the versatile actress in an exclusive chat about her experiences of working in the film. Excerpts…

Tell us something about the character you play in Tarikh.

Anashua Majumdar- I play the role of Ira’s mother. She is a teacher by profession. Ira is played by Raima Sen in Tarikh.

How was the experience of working with Churni Ganguly?

Anashua Majumdar- Working with her has been a great experience. She is a person who has a beautiful mind. She not only thinks about herself but also about the others. She thinks about the younger generation and has also employed a few college students in the film. The way they have acted is awesome. The message that the film gives is also awesome. I admire her a lot and she is one that people must look up to in the long run. Her thinking sets her apart from the other individuals.

How much active are you on the social media?

Anashua Majumdar- I am not very active on social media. Whenever I find something good in the social media, I read them. If used in the correct manner, social media can be very rewarding and a good tool for the benefit of humanity. I am challenged while using social media. So I often ask my son to show me how to use it.

Tarikh revolves around dates too. How good are you at remembering important dates?

Anashua Majumdar- Well, I try to remember important dates like birthdays of friends and relatives. When I wish them on such days, I also feel good. It has happened many times that due to hectic work schedule, I have not been able to meet a sick relative. He/she may have died and then I have regretted it. This is the reason why I remember important dates and I wish the people. Now Facebook is helping me to remember dates too. So in a way social media has been helpful.

You recently worked with a female director in Mukherjee Dar Bou. And now you have worked with another female director in Tarikh. Is it coincidental?

Anashua Majumdar- Well, it is coincidental. I shot Tarikh before Mukherjee Dar Bou. And yes it is a good thing that I am working with so talented women directors who are coming up with such fantastic stories.

You played a mother in Mukherjee Dar Bou. How much different will your portrayal of the mother be in Tarikh?

Anashua Majumdar- Well, this is a cameo. I don’t know how much impression it will make on the minds of the audience. But I found it interesting and hence I did the role. I just hope the audience likes it.

How much important will 12th April (the day Tarikh releases) be for the audience?

Anashua Majumdar- Well, this film will make people think. The young generation and the not-so-young generation both will like the film. The younger people must not only watch the film but also understand why the film has been made. They need to understand.
