OT infections are a serious concern. It is serious because it can turn fatal. To keep such infections away from the patients, Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals, Kolkata has equipped its Central Sterile Supply Duct (CSSD) as per international standards.

A press meet was organized to announce this feat. Gracing the occasion was Andrew Cserey, International Business Development Manager, Steelco SpA, Italy, Tapan Kumar Das, Dr Sushan Mukhopadhyaya and other eminent guests.

Any surgical instrument that is used in the hospitals should be made free of micro-organisms by CSSD by following five major steps namely decontamination, assembly, sterilization, sterile storage and distribution.

Cleaning is another crucial step in medical device reprocessing procedures. This is important so that the patient do not get affected with hospital acquired infection or nosocomial infection.

CSSD in Apollo Hospitals follows three stages of cleaning after every usage. The hospital is also equipped with the latest plasma sterilization which sterilizes laparoscopy instruments.

The doctors also highlighted on the fact how lack of proper CSSD can lead to and prove to be fatal for patients undergoing even simple surgeries.
