A group of experts successfully treated a unique and difficult medical case involving a 25-year-old poor jewelry worker from rural Bengal who had acute and ongoing blood vomiting.

After visiting another hospital, the young man’s bleeding source was not found via an endoscopy or colonoscopy. His condition deteriorated despite blood transfusions, so he was moved to a specialized team.

Following a comprehensive assessment, the medical team found a bile duct obstruction and a gallbladder stone. Blood was seen coming out of the common bile duct opening during an endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). Subsequent examination with a tri-phasic CT scan of the upper abdomen demonstrated a large pseudoaneurysm originating from the right hepatic artery, measuring 6 cm by 6 cm by 6 cm. The cause of the bleeding into the common bile duct was this pseudoaneurysm, an enlargement of the blood vessel delivering blood to the liver.

The gallbladder stone was removed and the pseudoaneurysm was effectively ligated during the emergency operation. By taking a comprehensive strategy, the medical team could treat life-threatening illnesses in one treatment, avoiding the need for several interventions.

In light of the outcome, Dr. Sanjoy Mandal MBBS, MS, DNB, MRCS, MCh, Consultant GI surgeon, Laparoscopy & Oncosurgery, AMRI Hospitals said “This case emphasizes the significance of prompt diagnosis and intervention in life-threatening conditions.” In addition to saving the patient’s life, the team’s ability to complete the required operations in a single surgical session reduced the dangers involved in doing numerous surgeries”.

The patient is anticipated to fully recover and is already recuperating. This instance emphasizes how important sophisticated surgical and diagnostic methods are to treating complicated illnesses.
