Speaking at the event, Tota Roy Chowdhury said “I am glad to be a part of this nomination announcement event. Bengali films have always faced challenges from other language films. But we have proved our merit and now the films that are released at the end of the year are getting more halls. One thing I would like to highlight is that the Bengali film industry has fewer resources than the other film industries in India but gives great quality work. This is something that one should be proud of”.
There are 17 award categories in the popular segment, 8 award categories in the technical award segment, and a lifetime achievement award.
Some of the categories are as follows: Best Film, Best Director, Best Music, Most Promising Actor, Most Promising Actress, Best Playback Singer (Male), Best Playback Singer (Female), Most Promising Director, Best Background Score, Best Art Director, Best Lyricist, Best makeup Artist and many more.
The Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award will be given to actress-director Aparna Sen.

Rituparna Sengupta said “I have won a few WBFJA awards and they are very precious to me. This award is special because this is given by the journalists. The quality of the awards is very high. The journalists take ample care to discuss the films and the different technical aspects before they present us with any award. Hence this has gained importance over the years”.
The award show will take place on 12th January, Sunday at the Ajanta Circus tent at Patuli Circus Ground.
