At the sacred grounds of Gaudiya Math in Baghbazar, Dev Entertainment Ventures launched the redesigned version of “Hori Mon Mojaye” from their upcoming film, Binodiini-Ekti Natir Upakhyan, an iconic composition by famous theater writer Late Shri Girish Chandra Ghosh.

Director Ram Kamal Mukherjee, singer Suchismita Chakraborty, and Rukmini Maitra, the lead actress in Binodiini, graced the occasion.

The song has great historical and cultural value and was first sung by Binodini Dasi, the Prima Donna of Bengal’s stage when she played Chaitanya Mahaprabhu in Chaitanya Leela. Girish Chandra Ghosh directed his artistic talents toward devotional themes when writing during a revolutionary period when the British government prohibited plays with revolutionary overtones, creating classic pieces such as “Hori Mon Mojaye”.

With the music rearranged by Sourendro-Soumyojit, the masterpiece is given new life in this modern adaptation by the passionate voice of the rising star Suchismita Chakraborty. This rendition of Ghosh’s original song, which has its roots in the Kirtan tradition, offers a distinctive auditory experience by fusing the majesty of a film score with the rich soundscape of Bengali theater.

“Hori Mon Mojaye” is timeless. It serves as a link between the cinematic excellence we strive for and the heartfelt spirit of Bengali theater. Director Mr. Ram Kamal Mukherjee said, “Sourendro-Soumyojit’s rich arrangement and Suchismita’s voice beautifully capture the song’s pivotal moment in the screenplay, depicting Binodini Dasi’s profound encounter with Ramakrishna Paramhansa Deb”.

Due to its revival and reintroduction of a crucial piece of theatrical history to a broader audience, this adaptation also represents a significant milestone in the preservation and celebration of Bengal’s rich cultural heritage. The event was a fitting homage to Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, the tradition of Girish Chandra Ghosh, and the ageless art of Bengali theater since it spoke to the spiritual and cultural core of “Hori Mon Mojaye”.

Produced by Dev Entertainment Ventures & Pramod Films, Binodiini – Ekti Natir Upakhyan will be released on 23rd January 2025 in single screens and multiplexes across West Bengal.
