Embracing the East for Cultural Harmony: The Purvodaya Literary Festival 2025 will take place in Kolkata. This festival promises to celebrate the rich and diverse artistic expressions of the East. Prepare to be captivated by the lyrical beauty of Bengal poetry, the enchanting folklore of Assam, the epic tales of Odisha, the captivating mythologies of Bihar and Jharkhand, and the timeless wisdom found in the indigenous oral histories of Eastern Uttar Pradesh.

The three-day Purvodaya Literary Festival 2025 will be inaugurated by H.E. Shri CV Ananda Bose, Hon’ble Governor of West Bengal(TBC), on 27th February and will conclude on 1st March 2025.

It will be organized by the Institute of Social and Cultural Studies (ISCS) an Eastern Indian-based eminent Think Tank in collaboration with the National Book Trust, the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Sahitya Akademi, Sri Aurobindo Bhavan, Publication Board of  Assam.

The curtain raiser press conference was graced by Smt. Alokananda Roy, Celebrated Dancer & Social Activist, Shri. Rupak Saha, Novelist, Sports Correspondent, Prof. Kamal Kishore Mishra, HoD, Dept. of Sanskrit, CU, Smt. Roopsha Dasgupta, Writer, Voice Artist & Actor, Shri. Arindam Mukherjee, Director, ISCS.

A fascinating voyage through Eastern India’s literary genius is anticipated to unfold during this festival. Rekindling the love of reading and writing, encouraging lively discussions among imaginative minds, and honoring the region’s priceless linguistic legacy are the goals of this celebration of words and ideas.

The festival’s highlights include:

  • Presenting the rich literary and cultural traditions of the area, including Assamese folk tales, Bengali poetry, Odia epics, Bihar and Jharkhand mythologies, and indigenous oral histories.
  • Promoting conversations about national integration, creativity, and current literary themes.
  • Encouraging young authors and readers through interactive workshops, contests, and instructional initiatives.
  • Combining theater, dance, and music with literature to create a more comprehensive cultural experience.
  • Fostering intercultural understanding and nation-building with neighbors like Bangladesh, Nepal, and Bhutan.

More than two lakh people from the six vibrant Eastern Indian states are expected to attend the Purvodaya Literary Festival in 2025. Literary pioneers, cultural icons, and thought leaders from all over the region will come together for this eagerly awaited event, which will provide a forum for rich discussions and creative expressions. Through immersive author sessions, attendees will have the chance to interact with well-known writers, participate in thought-provoking panel discussions about literature, culture, and society, and take in enthralling cultural performances that highlight the various Eastern Indian customs.
