Airtel Protected 6.4 Million Users From Online Fraud In Bengal

Significant advancements have been made in Bharti Airtel’s (“Airtel“) efforts to shield West Bengal consumers from the growing number of online scams. Within 41 days of launching its sophisticated fraud detection system, Airtel has successfully protected over 6.4 million users throughout the state as part of the nationwide rollout of its AI-powered fraud detection system.
All Airtel mobile and broadband customers have automatic access to a sophisticated system that scans and filters links in various browsers, including SMS, WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook, Instagram, and email. Every day, it analyzes more than 1 billion URLs using real-time threat intelligence, blocking access to malicious websites in under 100 milliseconds.
Being one of the most technologically savvy states in India, Bengal has seen an increase in the risk of online fraud in both its urban and rural areas. Phishing links, phony deliveries, and phony banking alerts are some of the ways that fraudsters are increasingly targeting users. Such fraudulent attempts have increased dramatically in towns like Habra, Bolpur, and Bankura, as well as in cities like Siliguri, Durgapur, Asansol, Kharagpur, and Midnapore. As a statewide digital shield, Airtel’s solution protects not only new smartphone users but also families, senior citizens, homemakers, and students.
The AI-powered platform is very effective for the diverse population of the state because it provides fraud warnings in the user’s preferred language, including Bengali. In districts where English is not widely spoken or where digital literacy is low, this multilingual support has a significant impact.
The solution is free, requires no installation, and runs quietly in the background. From online banking to government e-services, West Bengal is leading the way in digital adoption, and Airtel’s initiative is essential to building a safer digital ecosystem throughout the state. Airtel helps make every digital interaction safer, whether you’re a student in Midnapore, a working professional in Siliguri, or a homemaker in Durgapur.
Airtel has protected 95.6 million users nationwide and blocked over 188,000 malicious links in the final 41 days of the launch.
