Postal Stamp Out Now On 3 Decades Of Mobile Industry Celebration

With great pride, the All India Mobile Retailers Association (AIMRA) announces the conclusion of its “3 Decades of Mobile Industry Celebration”, commemorating 30 years since India’s first mobile call. In a landmark moment that not only transformed communication in India but also set the stage for the nation’s continuous digital transformation, West Bengal Chief Minister Shri Jyoti Basu used a Nokia phone on Modi Telstra’s network to make the first-ever mobile call to then-Telecommunications Minister Shri Sukh Ram on July 31, 1995.
A Commemorative Postal Stamp was introduced in conjunction with this momentous occasion to commemorate the revolutionary development of mobile connection and its profound influence on the advancement of the country.
Gracing the event was Sri. Ashok Kumar, Chief Post Master General, West Bengal Circle, Mr. Kailash Lakhyani, National Founder Chairman, AIMRA, Mr. Navneet Pathak, National Joint Secretary, AIMRA, Mr. Mohan Bajoria, State President, AIMRA Bengal, Mr. Mridul Biswas, State General Secretary, AIMRA Bengal, and many others.

The day emphasized Bengal’s tagline, Bengal means Business, highlighting the region’s leadership and entrepreneurial drive within India’s mobile revolution, in keeping with the concept of local for vocal. Mobile shops, which are crucial to India’s digital revolution, have helped consumers from the very beginning by providing practical experiences, knowledgeable assistance, and trustworthy service across all technical eras. In Kolkata, more than 200 AIMRA officials from all around the nation came together to celebrate the industry’s amazing journey and to acknowledge the crucial role performed by mobile retailers, known as the end mile, who have been bridging innovation and the consumer for thirty years.
Mr. Kailash Lakhyani, National Founder Chairman, AIMRA, said, “In addition to honoring technological advancement, India’s commemoration of 30 years of mobile telephony also honors the tenacity, fortitude, and contributions of the nation’s thousands of mobile shopkeepers. Our stores have served as a crucial link between innovation and the average consumer since the first voice call was placed in 1995 and up to the high-speed connectivity of today. AIMRA is proud of this incredible journey and is dedicated to providing every retailer with the information, resources, and chances they need to succeed in the digital era as we move forward”.

Bengal and the entire AIMRA family are extremely proud of this momentous achievement. Mobile stores have been instrumental in making India a digitally connected country during the last thirty years.
