Tagore Institute Of Peace Studies Starts With Great Focus On Peace

The Tagore Institute of Peace Studies (TIPS), an initiative devoted to scholarly research, discussion, and policy participation in peace and conflict resolution, was started by the Bharat Chamber of Commerce.
The launch, held in Kolkata, was graced by Mr. Naresh Pachisia, President, Bharat Chamber of Commerce; Ambassador Anil Wadhwa (IFS, Retd.); Mr. Anil Swarup (IAS, Retd.); Mr. Sitaram Sharma, Founder President, TIPS; and Dr. N.G. Khaitan, Advisor, TIPS.
Although India is ranked 117th out of 163 countries in the 2025 Global Peace Index, one should view this as a challenge—a need to do more, both domestically and internationally. This dedication to striving for harmony in diversity is reflected in India’s leadership in international forums such as the G20, its active participation in UN peacekeeping missions, and its international diplomacy.

Drawing on the ageless humanism of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore himself, the founding of the Tagore Institute of Peace Studies is therefore more than just symbolic; it is a move toward action, fostering scholarship and student leadership in the field of peacebuilding. In his ideal world, nationalism would be a blending of cultures rather than a cause of strife.
The Tagore Institute of Peace Studies is situated in a special nexus of enterprise, ethics, and education in this regard. It is crucial to pause and consider what truly distinguishes education from other sectors in an era of rapid global change, when knowledge has become a commodity and institutions are increasingly influenced by the market.

The event included a special session titled “Education is Business: But With A Difference”, which examined how education is changing in the modern world and how to strike a balance between innovation and inclusivity, as well as between ethics and enterprise. The conversation focused on how education helps create responsible individuals and promotes long-term social progress.
As the Bharat Chamber of Commerce continues to influence important discussions and promote inclusive growth through education and dialogue, the establishment of TIPS signifies not just the start of a new organization but also a fresh commitment to peace, purpose, and progress.
