Chaudhury & Company- A Special Tribute To Bengal’s Pice Hotels

The dynamic team of restaurateurs Shiladitya and Debaditya Chaudhury, who created two of Kolkata’s most cherished fine dining establishments, Oudh 1590 and Chapter 2, recently unveiled Chaudhury & Company, a food haven inspired by Bengali history that resurrects and reimagines the lost art of Bengal’s Pice Hotels. C&C is prepared to take patrons on a sentimental yet elegant trip into the essence of Bengali cuisine with the captivating tagline “Eey Kaler Rannay, Shey Kaler Swad” (Where The Present Palette Meets The Taste Of The Past). With great enthusiasm, Tollywood Icon Prosenjit Chatterjee launched Chaudhury & Company.
The Chaudhury brothers have visited innumerable century-old pice hotels—those modest yet soulful restaurants that formerly typified everyday Bengali dining—during their recent travels throughout Kolkata and Bengal. Documenting, tasting, and preserving trademark dishes—many of which are currently disappearing from modern food culture—was their goal. The outcome is a carefully planned menu that combines classic recipes with contemporary tastes, guaranteeing that patrons may enjoy both classic favorites and newly created treats.

The menu curation has been led by Chef Joymalya Banerjee, who has 25 years of expertise and is renowned for his inventiveness with historical cuisines. Freshness, genuineness, and narrative are all evident in every dish, which is presented with the same sense of camaraderie and generosity that Pie hotels exemplified.
The cuisine of Chaudhury & Company features an exceptional assortment of meals that honor the classic flavors of Bengal.
Patrons can enjoy Daab Sharbat, Tetuler Sharbat, Mochar Malai Chop, Fowl Cutlet, Mutton Mughlai Paratha, Golda Chingrir Chiney Kebab, Chingri Malai Curry, Gondhoraaj Kankra Chingri Bhapa, Daab Chingri, Ilish Bhapa, Ilish Paturi, Luchi, Koraishutir Kochuri, Basanti Pulao, Boror Shorshe Jhal, Thor Ghonto, Gondhoraj Chhanar Paturi, Kosha Mangsho, Mutton Dak Bungalow, Shile Bata Murgi, Railway Murgir Jhol, Kancha Kumro (Raw Pumpkin)Bhorta, Ool(Yams) Bhorta, Loitya (Fried Bombil) Bhora, Ilish Macher Lej Bhorta), chutneys, Mishti Doi, Chhanar Payesh, and Rabri.

Additionally, there is the magnificent Pice Hotel Thala, which offers a carefully assembled platter of Bengali cuisine that combines a variety of authentic Bengali flavors. As with the other restaurants, any additional items beyond the Thali will be billed according to the menu.
Speaking at the inauguration, Prosenjit Chatterjee said, “I am very proud of the two brothers, as I have known them from a very young age. Bengalis have a bad reputation that they are not being successful in business. But they have proved them wrong, and I am so proud of their achievements. I hope that they continue to shine and make us proud”.
The expansive 3,000 square foot Chaudhury & Company space was created by artist and architect Sanjib Saha of J&S Interiors as a narrative-driven setting that serves as a living archive of Bengal’s social and cultural history to go along with the gastronomic experience. An atmosphere that honors Kolkata’s enduring charm is created by the combination of Red Oxide Floors, Khorkhori Windows, Vintage Utensils, Kalighat Patachitra, Battala Woodcuts, with the imprints from ancient Calcutta collage through a Juggernaut or a royal scene involving the aristocratic Babu Bibi, and Sepia-Toned Theatre Portraits. Every aspect, from the banana-leaf dining elements to the chalkboard-style menus (reimagined with contemporary digital displays), evokes the essence of the Pice Hotel while transforming it into an opulent dining experience.

The staff’s clothing and uniforms have been conceptualized and developed by famous fashion expert Abhishek Roy, who specializes in textile design, adding to the experience.
Every area of the restaurant offers a tale about Bengali cuisine, art, theater, and culture, making it more than just a place to eat. Chaudhury & Company honors the original Pice Hotel ideology while maintaining the core of the establishment:
• Fresh, seasonal products sourced daily from local markets;
• A la carte pricing and banana leaf service, where every item, including the leaf, has a value;
• Communal friendliness where guests feel at home, their stories are heard, and their tastes are remembered.
However, Chaudhury & Company also recognizes the needs of modern-day Kolkata, including working couples, nuclear families, and foodies who want homestyle flavors in a classy, cozy, and unforgettable setting.
More than just a restaurant, Chaudhury & Company is a celebration of Bengali identity, where modern design and culinary memory collide, where art and architecture enhance culinary tales, and where each meal serves as a reminder of the legacy that continues to influence Kolkata today.

A meal for two at Chaudhury & Company would cost Rs 1200 + GST.
The location is 24C, Deshapriya Park West, Kolkata – 700026, right opposite to Oudh 1590, Deshapriya Park outlet.
Timings are from 11:30 in the morning till 10:30 at night.
Food can also be ordered via food aggregators and Chaudhury & Company’s in-house delivery fleet.
