For the past 20 years, Bobby Chakraborty, a well-known actor, activist, and method acting instructor from Kolkata, India, has been working alone to implement his free global awareness program, I AM THE KING OF MY MIND, for young people in over 480 schools, colleges, universities, orphanages, and red light districts worldwide.

He let us know about his experiences planning anti-addiction campaigns, particularly for the kids and sex workers in the red light districts.

Bobby said “Based on my extensive and vivid experiences over the past 20 years in international educational institutions and other organizations, in villages, cities, and townships of all sizes and magnitudes, I have come to the conclusion that the issue or door to darkness for an individual remains the same for every strata, demographic, and area; the path leading to that darkness and destruction varies accordingly. My endeavor, goal, or initiative is to help a child, young person, or individual avoid the dark path of addiction (smoking, alcoholism, substance abuse, smart phones) and harmful social trends (abusive language, online obscenity to gain popularity, online gambling through video games, ragging, bullying) and instead walk the brighter path in life by prioritizing HCF (Health-Career-Family) and learning how to control one’s own thoughts”.

He added, “Over the past 20 years, my campaigns in red light districts have been the most challenging and rewarding. I frequently deal with the serious problem of teachers from the wealthy segment of society who completely deny that these risks exist for a child! You can therefore imagine the struggles I face in organizing my campaigns in that segment of the impoverished society where education is lacking, where the system encourages these evils to continue and consume a person, and where it is common for people to become addicted at a very young age”.

Bobby said, “Before I could gather the sex workers and their children for my campaigns here, I had to deal with dishonest politicians, mafia, and other organizations. However, the feedback I received after my sessions, particularly from the Kalighat, Sonagachi, Watgung, and Munshiganj areas, has been overwhelming. Here, I have developed a close relationship with the kids and their moms. Beyond my awareness program, I have participated in other sporting and cultural events here. During Durga Puja, Diwali, and Christmas, I frequently take the kids out for a day at the movies and shopping centers. I have also sponsored local kids to pursue their education”.

The actor concluded by saying that he was grateful that God had given him this chance to give back to the community by using his anti-addiction campaign to raise much-needed awareness among children in particular. To combat evil and protect the next generation, he implored all socially conscious educators and administrators to stand with him.
