Less-Privileged Kids Attend Special Event- A Day With Children

For many children, going into a shopping mall, using an escalator, entering a gaming area, or picking an ice cream can appear to be a normal part of growing up. For nine less-privileged children in Kolkata, however, Friday marked the first time many of these experiences came their way.
The special event, A Day with Children, was organized by Kolkata-based NGO Best Friendz Society, uniting nine children and five student volunteers for a day at Acropolis Mall.
Among the children were those raised in households where parents work as cooks and cleaners, and also a child whose mother lives by begging. Though their situations may vary, the core message of the initiative was clear: every child is invaluable, and every child deserves the chance to enjoy childhood with dignity.
For some, simply stepping into a mall was an entirely new experience. There was excitement and a touch of hesitation as they stepped onto an escalator for the first time.
The day was not solely about charity; it was also about belonging. The children played with the student volunteers, laughed together, and shared a meal, regardless of their social or economic backgrounds.

Food brought an extra thrill to the outing. From noodles and snacks to chilled drinks, ice creams, and shakes, the children enjoyed a variety of tastes and treats that made the day even more special.
Shagufta Hanaphie, Co-Founder and Chairperson of Best Friendz Society, was with the children throughout the outing. The initiative embodies the organization’s conviction that empowerment goes beyond supplying basic needs like food, clothing, and education; children also require chances to explore, socialize, play, and make joyful memories.
The involvement of five young student volunteers gave the programme a special significance. Rather than just providing gifts to children from different backgrounds, they spent time with them as friends, enjoying games, food, conversations, and laughter together.
The initiative was made possible with the support of YES BANK, Mrs. Seema Bahri, and Professor Soujanya Pudi, who came forward to join and back the initiative. Best Friendz Society sincerely thanks them for their contribution in making a day filled with joy, dignity, and new experiences for the children.
The photos from that day convey far more than just a casual outing: they show hesitant first steps on an escalator, thrill in a gaming arcade, a table laden with food shared among friends, kids laughing on rides and playing games, and ultimately, a group posing together with smiles after a full day of new adventures.
