The trailer for India’s first AI-powered movie with virtual stars was released a few days ago, sparking new discussions about whether AI could eventually supplant human creativity. This is the first time virtual heroes have been tried in a mainstream film, even though AI is frequently used in films to de-age and portray younger versions of actors.

“We must wait and see if these experiments are successful. Currently, pre-production arrangements, data organization, shoot scheduling, post-production, and visual effects are all handled by AI-powered tools in the filmmaking industry. AI efficiently assists filmmakers at every stage. Additionally, some tools can analyze datasets of popular films, offer plot twist recommendations, and even assist in overcoming writer’s block. However, I also believe that excessive reliance on AI tools will eventually affect true human creativity” said actor-producer Jackky Bhagnani.

He said that writer-directors and screenwriters should concentrate on telling authentic, natural stories that have soul and depth. Humans have the advantage because machines are emotionless. Can a machine replicate the poignant moments we witnessed in Laapataa Ladies, which exquisitely encapsulated rural India and its unvarnished, rooted characters? That is impossible for machines. For this reason, he believes that filmmakers ought to keep experimenting with new and original themes or finding stories that viewers can relate to.

He says that the same reasoning holds for music. “We are aware that there are several AI tools that can create music expertly. If a human suggests a song and the machine produces the sound, that’s all right, but what would happen if someone relied entirely on AI to compose music? Is it possible for a machine to compose a soulful melody like those composed by AR Rahman, RD Burman, and Naushad?  AI tools are best used as assistants, not as masters of your creativity” said Jackky.

Speaking about his own company, Jjust 360, he says it would be intriguing to observe how AI tools can enhance human creativity and complement their work.
