The country’s first and only platform specifically for the aluminium extrusion industry, ALUMEX India 2025, is expected to significantly advance India’s goal of becoming self-reliant in key manufacturing sectors. The three-day event, which will be held in New Delhi from September 10 to 13, is organized by the Aluminium Extrusion Manufacturers Association of India (ALEMAI) and supported by Hindalco, Vedanta, and JNARDDC, an independent organization under the Ministry of Mines. It aims to highlight the capabilities and strengths of domestic extrusion manufacturing.

ALUMEX India 2025 will bring together top industry players, MSMEs, technology providers, and policymakers to examine the future of aluminum extrusion across a range of industries, including electronics, mobility, green energy, infrastructure, and aerospace. More than 200 exhibitors and more than 12,000 visitors are anticipated worldwide. The involvement of world leaders in metal and metal recycling will improve Indian manufacturers’ quality and exports.

West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, and Assam in particular are positioned to be crucial to the expansion of the aluminum extrusion industry in Eastern India. There are about 25 manufacturing facilities in the area, and their combined monthly production is 10,000 metric tonnes. Ten of these units can be found in West Bengal.

Odisha’s plentiful primary aluminum supply supports these plants and offers downstream processing cost advantages. Additionally, they profit from the demand from the industrial areas of Howrah, Kharagpur, and Hooghly, which is fueled by urban infrastructure initiatives like solar power plants, electric mobility, and metro rail expansion. With producers in East India supplying to markets in Europe, the Middle East, and North America, regional export activity is also increasing.

“Eastern India has enormous strategic importance for the aluminum extrusion industry. It makes a substantial contribution to the industry thanks to its abundant mineral reserves, proximity to smelters, strong industrial corridors, and advancing connectivity. Eastern India will be crucial in lowering reliance on imports of aluminum and propelling the country’s aluminum extrusion industry into its next phase of expansion,” said Jitendra Chopra, President of ALEMAI.

“ALUMEX India 2025 provides a unique platform to demonstrate our capabilities to the world and reflects our belief in the strength of domestic manufacturing in India. For Indian businesses, it will foster cooperation, spur innovation, and open up new avenues for expansion”, added Mr. Chopra.

Eastern India still faces issues like high energy costs, restricted access to sophisticated machinery, and a lack of qualified CNC operators and metallurgists despite its distinct advantages. Industrial expansion is also hampered by regulatory delays related to land allocation and environmental approvals.

Through workshops on PLI schemes, technology localization, green extrusion techniques, and policy support for MSMEs, ALUMEX India 2025 will address these obstacles. Collaboration throughout the extrusion value chain will be facilitated by buyer-seller meetings and business matching.

More than 225 of India’s 400–450 aluminum extrusion facilities are ALEMAI members. Their combined annual production, which ranges from MSMEs to Nifty 50 companies, is 2.1 million tonnes.
