Utkala, the cultural arm of Sri Jagannath Seva Samiti, Kidderpore, held a Khiri Pitha Competition at Northern Park, Bhawanipur, as part of the grand celebration of Rath Yatra and Odisha Festival 2025.

Along with delectable food items, over 35 participants from West Bengal and Odisha displayed their talents.

The goal of the Khiri Pitha Competition is to highlight one of Odisha’s most treasured treats, the sweet rice dessert known as Khiri Pitha, which is made with coconut and jaggery. Cooking enthusiasts, home cooks, and foodies from all walks of life are invited to participate in the event, demonstrate their talents, and bring back traditional recipes from Odisha’s past.

Mr Chandrasekhar Panigrahi, President, Shri Jagannath Seva Samiti, Khidirpur said, “The Khiri Pitha Competition honors the flavors and customs that characterize our Odia culture and goes beyond a simple culinary competition. Our goal is to inspire the next generation to be proud of and continue these culinary traditions”.

A group of experts and cultural dignitaries, including Mr. Palash Sarkar, Mr. Pradip Rozario, and Mr. Raajdeep Bhattacharya, evaluated the participants based on criteria like presentation, taste, texture, and authenticity. Certificates and recognition awards were given to the winners.

This event is a part of the Odisha Festival, which takes place from June 28 to July 4, 2025. It is held in conjunction with Lord Jagannath’s annual Rath Yatra and includes devotional music performances, dance competitions, handicraft displays, and cultural programs.

The Khiri Pitha Competition was coordinated by Mrs. Alaka Mohanty, Mrs. Rajalaxmi Swain, and Mr. Gajendra Swain.
