Anticonvulsant Treatment Administered To A 26-Year-Old Mother At Manipal Hospital Kolkata
Anticonvulsant treatment was administered to a 26-year-old mother of an infant at Manipal Hospital in Kolkata, marking yet another milestone in inpatient care. Dr. Ansu Sen, MD, DM Consultant Neurology Manipal Hospital Salt Lake performed the procedure, which included a variety of pharmacological agents primarily used in the treatment of epileptic seizures.
Ria Ray (name changed), a resident of Kolkata staying with her in-laws suffered from left hemiparesis, a weakness on the left side of the body, and Arteriovenous malformation (AVM) in the year 2000. AVM is an abnormal tangle of blood vessels that connects the arteries and veins disrupting the normal blood flow and oxygen circulation in the brain. Ria underwent Gamma Knife surgery in another hospital in 2006. The surgery is a radiation therapy used to treat tumors, vascular malformations, and various other abnormalities in the brain. This year Ria was brought to Manipal Hospital with a complaint of headache seizure and left hemiparesis. She needed immediate diagnosis and the doctors at Manipal Hospital conducted a CT scan of the brain.

Ria was admitted to Manipal Hospital this year with a headache seizure and left hemiparesis. She required prompt diagnosis, so doctors at Manipal Hospital performed a brain CT scan.
Acute bleeding in the right ganglio capsular region and thalamus was discovered on CT images, along with perilesional oedema.
The CT Angiogram was the next step (CTA). It is a 30-minute procedure that involves the use of a high-tech scanner and sophisticated computer analysis to produce 3D images of the brain’s blood vessels. Small clusters of vessels were discovered in the ganglion capsular region and corona radiata, with feeding arterial supply from a terminal branch of the right internal carotid artery and the M1 segment of the Middle cerebral artery. A branch of the Right Superior Petrosal vein showed proximal draining veins.
Ria was later given Levetiracetam by mouth to treat the onset of seizures. She is aware of her hemodynamic stability. She hasn’t had any seizures and is taking care of her baby. She also has the ability to breastfeed her child. Her hemiparesis has improved, and she is currently being monitored.
