Cardiological Society of India Launched Research Project To Understand Risk Factors For Heart Problems
Not much data is available on why people in India suffer from heart attacks. The data received are mainly Western data. Hence in order to receive Indian data so as to understand the underlying causes for heart problems, Cardiological Society of India (CSI) has come up with a research to find out exactly the cause of the heart attacks.
The latest research project is titled Epidemiological Assessment of the prevalence of standard risk factors for cardiovascular atherosclerotic disease across West Bengal.
The project was launched under principal investigator Dr Debabrata Roy.
Dr P. S. Banerjee, Dr P.K. Deb, Dr M. K. Deb, Dr Dilip Kumar, Dr Bhabani Prasad Chatterjee and others graced the press meet.
Local data is not much available for treatment and research in India. With the help of this project, enough data can be accumulated which can help in the field of cardiology to a great extent.
The survey will be done on different classes of people across West Bengal. The state has been divided into five geographical regions for this survey purpose. The regions are Gangetic Bengal, Himalayan region, North Bengal plain, Rarh bangle and Mallabhum region. With this project, risk factors for heart disease will be easily evaluated. This will help doctors to prevent the growing rise in Coronary Artery Disease in people in West Bengal.
Each camp will have about 150 participants with a representative coverage of gender, age group and economic status.
The project which will begin from March will take about a year to complete.
