CMRI Kolkata, a division of CK Birla Hospitals, hosted an interactive session with media personalities at Press Club Kolkata in honor of World Kidney Day. “Protect Your Kidneys: Steps to Early Detection and Prevention” is this year’s session theme, which focuses on promoting public awareness and conversations about the significance of kidney health, with an emphasis on early diagnosis and preventive measures against chronic kidney diseases.

The session was graced by Dr. Pradip Chakraborty, Kidney Transplant Specialist and Surgeon, and Dr. Avinandan Banerjee, Consultant and Nephrologist at CMRI.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Pradip Chakraborty said, “We think it is more crucial than ever to concentrate on kidney health because we have seen numerous cases of kidney diseases in the pediatrics department. Kidney diseases do not only affect individuals of a particular age or personality type. Anyone can be impacted, and raising awareness and emphasizing early detection would be the best ways to achieve kidney health”.

Dr. Avinandan Banerjee added “The majority of kidney diseases are silent and only show symptoms later in life. To combat kidney diseases, it is crucial to concentrate on early detection. Since kidney disease and hypertension are becoming more common in India, raising awareness of these conditions and promoting early detection should be top priorities. Patients with a history of heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, and those over 60 are especially vulnerable to these problems and should have regular kidney function tests”.

The doctors also clarified the precautions people can take to protect their kidneys. A balanced diet, drinking plenty of water, managing blood pressure and sugar, and taking a few over-the-counter pain relievers were all part of this. Although kidney transplants are typically a last resort, there should be a focus on increasing awareness of them as a potentially life-saving treatment option for patients with end-stage renal disease. To stop any detrimental effects on kidney health, preventative measures are crucial.

Since kidney diseases affect millions of people worldwide, proactive kidney care, early diagnosis, and awareness are crucial. CMRI uses interactive sessions to educate in order to meet this need. These kinds of initiatives motivate people to take control of their kidney health before it’s too late.
