The trailer launch of Ei Raat Tomar Amar took place in the presence of director Parambrata Chatterjee, actors Anjan Dutt, Aparna Sen, and others.

At a lonely hill station, an old couple meets on the eve of their fiftieth anniversary while a storm rages outside their house. On this night of role reversal, the husband takes on household duties to care for his sick wife. Can he? When the male in the house takes over, how does a lady who meticulously arranges her home react and respond? It’s more than just nostalgia; it’s a period of reflection and emotional introspection. Are there any regrets? Does confessing cause one’s alleged prior transgressions to be forgotten? What sustains love in a fifty-year commitment, and where is the enchantment of partnerships that endure the pain of time and decisions? Is it a habit or love? Does an alienated parent-child connection affect a guy and his wife’s ability to love each other? Confession or confrontation—which is harder?

Two icons of Indian cinema began their careers with Aparna Sen‘s debut as Mrinmoyee in Samapti, in 1961, and Anjan Dutt’s debut in Chalchitro, in 1981. In 1981, Aparna Sen made her directorial debut with 36 Chowringhee Lane. They appeared in Mahaprithibi and Ek Din Achnaak, both directed by Mrinal Sen, over ten years later, however they did not share screen time. Oddly enough, it took 27 years to be paired against one another as contesting attorneys in Ek Je Chilo Raja. They have a unique friendship, a flawless cinematic career, and identical beliefs. In addition, Aparna directed Anjan in Mr. & Mrs. Iyer and Yugaant, two of her most well-known international productions.

Speaking at the trailer launch, Aparna Sen said “This is a chamber drama. This is something new and will surely appeal to the audience. We have been making films so that the audience can watch them and share their feedback with us. We will be elated if you could watch the film and give us your honest opinions on it”.

Anjan Dutt’s 1999 film Half Chocolate introduced Parambrata Chattopadhyay into the world of films. He said “This is not like the other films that I do. I am proud of this film. To act in a film that is directed by Parambrata which I launched way back in 1999 is a great feeling indeed. This is a sensitive film. Sensitive films are not made much in today’s times. And that is even less in Bengali films. So after a long time, the audiences will get to watch a sensitive film”.

There are no songs in the film. The background score has been handled by Indraadip Dasgupta.

Director Parambrata Chatterjee said “For kids of my generation, we have grown up watching Anjan Da and Rina Mashi (Aparna Sen). These two individuals are huge inspirations for people like me. They have not done only acting in their lives. They have also worked in different other fields as well. Rina Mashi has worked as an editor, made films, and so on. Anjan Da’s songs were what touched me more in my younger days. It was later on that I saw his films. So directing them both has been my dream come true”.

The film is slated for release on 31st January.
