Golden Galaxy Awards was initiated to celebrate a renowned International Film Festival, Virgin Spring Cinefest. The focus of this festival is primarily on empowering women, from the perspective of art, craft and the business of independent film making.

Virgin Spring Cinefest organized recently the first annual Golden Galaxy Awards.

The event was inaugurated by veteran actress Sabitri Chattopadhyay, Mrs India Universe 2018 Sangita Singh, Papiya Adhikary, Wasim Kapoor, dancer Mom Ganguly, Dr. Rajesh Purohit, Director of Indian Museum, Abhijit Ganguly and others.

Actress Sabitri Chattopadhyay was honored at the event with a Lifetime Achievement Award for her contribution to Indian cinema.

The festival has received 2500 submissions from 142 countries. Filmmakers from Australia, USA, Malaysia, Italy, France, Turkey, Tunisia, Germany, Sweden, UK and others will be attending this event.

The awards which is held for the first time will celebrate the best of Virgin Spring Cinefest, a monthly international film festival with a live screening event in Kolkata. The festival has been named in honor of director Ingmer Bergman’s film Virgin Spring.

With such initiatives, independent art house films from around the world will get a proper platform.
