First Edition of Indian Open Indoor Archery Tournament Inaugurated
The first edition of Indian Open Indoor Archery tournament was inaugurated at Netaji Indoor Stadium by Dr Partha Chatterjee, Hon’ble Minister for School Education and Higher Education, Rajeev Kumar, IPS, Commissioner of Kolkata Police, Deepika Kumari, Arjuna Awardee Archer, Trisha Deb, Asian games Medal Winner Archer, Jaydeep Karmakar, ace shooter, Dibyendu Barua, Grandmaster, Bidesh Bose and others.
More than four hundred and fifty participants took place in the tournament. Eight Olympians and five Asian Games medal winners were also part of this tournament.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr Partha Chatterjee said “Archery has developed much under the guidance of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. She has been trying her best to develop archery in Bengal to a great level. With the help of tournaments of this sort, individuals will get to test themselves and will also spread knowledge about this sport among the people”.
Siblings Dola and Rahul Banerjee who are both Arjuna Award winners extended their thanks to the esteemed guests for gracing the occasion.
The first day saw the qualification rounds where each archer shot sixty arrows. The qualifiers will then go on to play the knock out round on Sunday, 28th October. There will be prize money for the top three archers in four categories. The four categories include Recurve Men, Recurve Women, Compound Men and Compound Women.
Eminent archers like Deepika Kumari, Trisha Deb and others were felicitated at the event.
The event is organized by Dola and Rahul Banerjee sports Foundation (DRBSF) and supported by Government of West Bengal.
