The trailer for Bangla ZEE5’s new series Ganoshotru, which stars Paoli Dam, Rudranil Ghosh, Ayush Das, Debopriyo Mukherjee, and Subrata Dutta in key roles, was released. The trailer is currently available for streaming on all of Bangla ZEE5’s major social media channels.

The main cast and crew members, along with Ms. Rusa Banerjee, Business Head, Bangla ZEE5, attended the launch ceremony at Taj Vivanta.

Five terrifying true stories that are based on the lives of some of the prominent characters in Bengal’s criminal underworld will be presented by Ganoshotru. They came from very lowly origins and became the most infamous figures in the eyes of the public and the authorities after being used by society and facing financial difficulties. The rise, reign, and fall of some of Bengal’s most infamous criminals will be chronicled in this gritty crime drama, which will combine real-life stories with fictional retellings to expose their psyche, power, and legacy.

These 5 stories of Ganoshotru will feature Paoli Dam as Troilokya Devi, Rudranil Ghosh as Hubba Shyamal, Ayush Das as Sajal Barui, Debopriyo Mukherjee as The Chain Man, and Subrat Dutta as Rashid Khan.

Ganoshotru presents gruesome depictions of some of India’s most heinous offenders, including a parricidal teenager, a necrophiliac murderer, a murderous con artist, and a mastermind behind a bombing. One of them, Troilokya Devi, was a Brahmin widow who became a vicious extortionist and murderer. She was also India’s first female serial killer. Bengal’s underworld was dominated by the politically supported gangster Hubba Shyamal. Rashid Khan, the guy responsible for the 1993 Bowbazar blast that devastated Kolkata, young fugitive Sajal Barui, and The Chainman, who strangled women, are all featured in the series.

Paoli Dam praised the director Madhura Palit for her clarity. “I felt that the character of Troilokya was cursed. Whenever someone approached me for this role, it got shelved or cancelled. But that did not happen this time. Despite being a female mafia member, Troilokya Devi exudes a malevolent resolve. Her portrayal was both potent and difficult, with each detail designed to maintain the realism of her time. I had done some research on her, and it is nearly impossible to show her in 45 minutes. But thankfully, my director could do so,” said the actress.

Mr. Subrata Dutta said that the team concentrated on presenting the facts and characters with the highest level of accuracy throughout the series. “Rashid Khan, the satta king, orchestrated terror with a blast in Kolkata, exposing a hidden brutality. There were talks earlier of portraying this character. But that did not happen. So I was glad that this could happen. I tried to give a swag to the character as was demanded by the director. Hope it is liked by the audiences,” said Subrata Dutta.

Rudranil Ghosh plays the role of Hubba Shyamal. He said, “The portrayal of Hubba Shyamal, a mobster who eluded punishment despite his crimes, was captivating and powerful. Since each episode of Ganoshotru is so skillfully crafted to feel compelling and real, my goal was to add authenticity and depth. Hubba Shyamal’s name is known to most people. He terrorised people in the districts of Bengal. To portray such a role and act with actors like Paoli and Subrata in the same series was a great experience”.

Ayush Das said, “Sajal Barui was a young man with dangerous intelligence, and many were afraid of his methods. I delved deeply into his mind to authentically depict his ascent in the criminal underworld under Samik Roy Chowdhury’s tutelage. I disturbed my director many times to understand the role. It is very difficult to understand how a 16-year-old could do such grave deeds”.

“Chainman’s character reveals how suppressed human desires can turn into hostilities and violence. It was a difficult honor to play this heartless killer, and I think Ganoshotru’s gripping story will captivate audiences,” said Debopriya Mukherjee.

The five directors behind the five stories are Abhirup Ghosh for The Chainman, Madhura Palit for Troilkya Devi, Sayan Dasgupta for Rashid Khan, Samik Roy Chowdhury for Sajal Barui, and Srimanta Senguptta for Hubba Shyamal.

Ganoshotru is produced by Bangla Talkies and will start streaming from 31^st October on Bangla ZEE5.
