Heshel: A Women-Led Bengali Kitchen In Kolkata Offers Excellent Meals

Heshel stands out not only for its hearty Bengali flavors but also for the inspirational backstory of its cooks in a city that takes great pride in its culinary heritage. Heshel, which is situated at No. 3, Pathak Para Road, Behala, is open every day from noon to 10:00 PM and serves a variety of homely Bengali delicacies to Kolkatans at a very affordable price starting at Rs 30. Heshel, a women-led cloud kitchen project funded by PCI India, is revolutionizing food entrepreneurship by empowering unemployed and underemployed urban women to turn their culinary talents into successful, long-lasting enterprises.
Heshel, which has its roots in the warmth of a Bengali home, started off last year in Kolkata with the straightforward goal of giving women options for respectable livelihoods by providing them with professional training, business support, and the self-assurance to manage their own businesses. Since then, the project has progressively expanded, adding more kitchens and reaching a wider audience through delivery services and an increasing number of clients who value genuineness, excellence, and purpose.

Every meal at Heshel conveys two stories: one about the rich culinary traditions of the area and another about women taking on leadership positions as entrepreneurs, cooks, and decision-makers.
On offer are dishes like Labda, Aloo Posto, Patla Masur Dal, Murgir Jhol, Katla Kalia, Mochar Chop, Bhetki Fish Fry, Channar Dalna, vegetarian and non-vegetarian thalis, Chowmein, Fried Rice, Chilli Chicken, and Veg Manchurian.

Trained women from different Self Help Groups in Kolkata manage the kitchens. Each entrepreneur receives end-to-end support from PCI India, a not-for-profit organization with a significant national presence. This help includes financial literacy, company management advice, culinary and safety training, and the development of digital capabilities. The women have embraced technology-driven procedures that guarantee effectiveness, openness, and seamless operations, from online order administration to inventory and payment systems.
In order to ensure consistency in taste and service standards, the staff constantly goes through quality checks and coaching in addition to sharing duties in the kitchen. In addition to providing delectable, home-style food, the women of Heshel are gradually making a name for themselves in the cutthroat food services industry thanks to their expanding online presence and favorable client testimonials.

Heshel stands out for its conviction that opportunity is the first step toward empowerment. Under the title of Didi’s Meal Box, PCI India has previously implemented comparable models in cities like Bengaluru, Delhi-NCR, and Hyderabad; the Kolkata chapter continues this objective with fresh vigor. The organization’s goal with Heshel is to create a network of women-run microbusinesses that are socially significant, financially sustainable, and deeply ingrained in local cultures.
One straightforward idea continues to drive Heshel’s kitchens as it expands throughout Kolkata: food nourishes best when produced with care, and futures thrive best when backed with opportunity. Heshel is building a stronger, more inclusive future with each order it prepares and serves.
