The biggest airline in India, IndiGo, has definitively committed to 30 Airbus A350 aircraft, turning a Memorandum of Understanding signed in June into a definite purchase. With this, the airline now has 60 A350 orders in total. As IndiGo gets ready to enter the long-haul international market, the enlarged order represents a strategic move that will help the airline achieve its worldwide goals by utilizing the A350’s efficiency and long range.

As the economy expands and household budgets rise, international travel is increasing in India, and the aviation industry with the fastest rate of growth in the world. The A350 is ideally suited to meet the nation’s long-distance travel needs.

For almost 50 years, Airbus has maintained a strategic partnership with India, whose civil aviation industry has grown thanks to its products and services. The A350 has emerged as the benchmark aircraft to help Indian carriers tap the potential of the global market, even as the A320 Family of aircraft helps democratize air travel in India.

“The conversion of this Memorandum of Understanding into a firm order for 30 additional A350-900s is a testament to our confidence in the future of Indian aviation and our strategic partnership with Airbus, further reinforced by the strong start of our long-haul operations. IndiGo is making significant progress toward its goal of becoming a major global aviation player by 2030, in keeping with India’s desire to become a global aviation center. When these aircraft are added to our fleet in the upcoming years, they will be crucial in helping IndiGo broaden its customer base, connect India with more foreign locations, and provide new international travel options,” said Pieter Elbers, CEO of IndiGo.

The most advanced and effective widebody aircraft in the 300–410 seater class is the A350. Modern aerodynamics and technologies in the A350 provide unparalleled levels of comfort and efficiency. When compared to competing aircraft of the previous generation, its next-generation engines and use of lightweight materials result in a 25% advantage in fuel consumption, operational expenses, and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.

The A350 can already run on up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), much like all other Airbus aircraft. By 2030, Airbus wants all of its aircraft to be completely SAF-capable.

By the end of September 2025, 63 customers worldwide had placed over 1,400 orders for the A350.
