At the IVPA Global RoundTable @ 4.0: Navigating Tectonic Global Shifts, the Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) took part in a discussion on the subject of “Navigating Trade, Tariffs and Trust: Positioning Malaysian Palm Oil for the Indian Market”. During her speech, MPOC CEO Ms. Belvinder Sron emphasized Malaysia‘s critical contribution to India’s edible oil security. During the Roundtable, MPOC also formally established a partnership with the Indian Vegetable Oil Producers’ Association (IVPA) to advance Malaysian palm oil’s sustainability and nutritional qualities.

With a 24% worldwide production share and an output of 19.34 million MT, Malaysia is the second-largest producer of palm oil in the world. Thanks to MPOC’s trade and outreach efforts, Malaysia is a dependable and constant supplier to India.

Since opening its second regional office worldwide in 1995, Malaysia has celebrated 30 years of engagement with India. Recent policy developments have further solidified Malaysia’s position in India. Malaysian CPO is currently the most affordable edible oil available in the Indian market due to the July 2025 import duty adjustment. Malaysia now has the most tariff-advantaged position among India’s edible oils because to this tariff shift.

MPOC’s continuous efforts in India are supported by solid supply-side fundamentals from Malaysia. Only 3 to 3.5 million MT of palm oil are consumed domestically each year; the majority of the nation’s production is exported. Following the nation’s environmental promises, the growth of mature planted areas has since plateaued, even though total production peaked in 2017 at 19.9 million MT. Malaysian palm oil has established itself as a premium commodity that is recognized throughout the world due to consistent investments in sustainable and efficient production methods.

At the same time, MPOC keeps stepping up its interactions with important Indian stakeholders in an effort to dispel myths like “No Palm Oil” labels and foster trust while raising awareness about Malaysian palm oil. The Oil Technologists’ Association of India (OTAI) and MPOC inked a cooperation agreement in March 2025 to jointly promote nutritional education, which includes funding locally carried out studies emphasizing the health benefits of palm oil.

A consumer education campaign centered on industry outreach through the series Bharat Ka Swaad Palm Oil Ke Saath, in collaboration with celebrity chef Shipra Khanna, and cooperative advocacy on regulatory problems are two aspects of the new, comparable engagement with IVPA that was announced recently. Through regional Indian cuisines, the current series, which airs on Zee TV from May to August 2025, showcases the nutritional advantages and culinary variety of Malaysian palm oil.
