Upcoming Bengali film Kalponik, which is slated for release on the 11th of July, boasts a great storyline and an amazing cast.

A story about truth, treachery, and the falsehoods we live by. Once an idealistic journalist, Maithili (28), is now disgraced and directionless after a mistake costs her job and reputation. She is barely surviving after being kicked out of mainstream media when she gets a call from Adhiraj Mitra, a young political figure who promises her complete editorial freedom at his new grassroots publication. Maithili seizes the opportunity eagerly for atonement. A weak academic who says she has found the location of a lost Hindu temple concealed in the pages of an old travel journal provides her with her first solid lead. As Maithili continues her investigation, she discovers a lost world and an old location that is now a dilapidated mosque. The state is rocked by the story. Maithili becomes well-known. What happens next?

The director and writer of the film is Arka Mukhopadhyay. “I used my own money to make this film. This is an independent film. The subject talks about inequality and polarisation. There are four important characters in the film. Hope the audience will love the film”.

The music has been composed by Kisaloy Roy.

The cast of the film consists of Rajatava Datta, Satakshi Nandy, and MD. Sahidur Rahaman, Sayan Ghosh & others.

Satakshi Nandy plays the lead role of the journalist in the film. “Kalponik is a political thriller. This kind of film has not been made in Bengal in the last few years. I play Maithali, who is a journalist and an independent person. This is an urban character, and I have not played a role in my career. It has been a long collaborative journey as the director stays abroad, and I live in Kolkata. This collaborative effort boosted my confidence,” said the actress.

Rajatava Dutta said, “We worked hard for the film. Our director stays abroad. He came here to make this independent film. This is a valuable film. The film was shown at the Kolkata International Film Festival in 2024. Those who could not watch the film then can get the chance to see it in theatres”.

The film has been shot in Kolkata and Purulia.

The film is produced by Arka Mukhopadhyay, Amrita Chakraborti, and Fables Cradle.
