“The artist in the Bengali film industry that I am jealous of is Rukmini Maitra. She has been getting amazing roles since she began her career. I had to wait so many years before I could bag such meaty roles. However, as the producer of the film, I am so very proud of her and the director Ram Kamal Mukherjee for their dedication towards the project” said Dev at the trailer launch of Binodiini- Ekti Natir Upakhyan.

Also gracing the event were director Ram Kamal Mukherjee, Rukmini Maitra, Om Sahani, and others.

Rukmini Maitra became extremely emotional at the trailer launch event. She thanked the director, producers, and also the team that has worked relentlessly to make this project a success.

The film narrates the journey of a young girl from the red-light area of North Kolkata. Her dreams of becoming famous in the theatre world faced great challenges. She is then guided by her mentor, the famous playwright Girish Chandra Ghosh. She overcame prejudices and became a reputed name in the world of theatre.

Dev said that he became part of the film at a later stage. Ram Kamal Mukherjee and Rukmini Maitra are the two people who have tried their best to make this dream a reality.

He also said “Heroine oriented stories must also be supported. Hence we thought of associating with his film. We made a heroine-oriented film at the budget of a hero-oriented film. The scale is grand and there is no compromise done on our part. Binodiini is also a hero in her own right. And knowing about her life and sacrifices is so very important for all Bengali”.

Om thanked the director and the producers for casting him in Binodiini. “I was doing a play when I got the offer for this role. When the song Kanha was released, I cried a lot. And so I can understand that Rukmini became all emotional today at the trailer launch” said the actor.

Ram Kamal Mukherjee stressed the fact that many people were questioning his choice of casting Rukmini as Binodini. However, watching the trailer and the film will help people to understand why she was the perfect fit for this role.

The film is slated for release on 23^rd January.
