Autumn has come to Kolkata, and with it the seven-day “Shefali” celebration. The sky is covered with rows of cotton-like clouds, the fields are dotted with rich kaash flowers, and the warm sun beams brightly. The sounds of autumn’s arrival permeate the air.

An exclusive Sharad Utsav festival called “Shefali” was held by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and the Infosys Foundation to commemorate this lovely season. The festival was held at GD Birla Sabhaghar.

The splendor of Autumn has had a tremendous influence on Bengali literature and culture. With this in mind, “Shefali” put together a varied schedule that highlighted the best aspects of Sharad Utsav every evening. The seven-day celebration included dance, poetry, art, music, and a rainbow of colors.

The inaugural day featured Piyal Bhattacharya’s “Sharaccharu Chakram”.

The performances in the next few days were:

– “Sona Ronger Sharat” – a medley of music, dance, poetry, and live painting

– Saptak Sanai’s musical performance

– Tannmay Chakraborty’s poetry recitation

– Sayani’s dance performance

– Rinku Bhadra’s live painting

– Indrayudh Majumdar and Saunak Chattopadhyay’s jugalbandi “Sharater Chhayanat”

– Preeti Patel’s “Asit Awantha Sharat”

– Birbhum Sanskriti Bahini’s theatrical performance “Bogaley Bayen”

– Sushant Mahato Group’s Chhau dance

A grand celebration of art and culture this Autumn.
