Sonam Kapoor, the Bollywood actress who is currently considered the epitome of style, never set out to become India’s style icon. There was no plan in place to create an image. All she did was borrow clothing from Western and Indian designers to pursue her love of fashion. The rest is recorded in history!

“I just wanted to wear what I liked from the designers I knew. It was just me being myself, shaped by my love of fashion and the education my mother gave me. I grew up looking up to fashion designers—both Indian and foreign—because my mother introduced me to them. This was about my sincere love of fashion, not about projecting a certain image” said Sonam.

“I realized people didn’t borrow clothes often, so I started borrowing them. Continually purchasing everything was not logical. Though it was more sensible to borrow, I did purchase a lot. Since this technique was uncommon in India but prevalent elsewhere, I followed my instincts at the moment. When I was twenty years old, I had no strategic plan—I was just following my passion for fashion” added the actress.

Sonam has become a global fashion phenomenon, praised by media outlets throughout the globe for her incredible influence on brands and her flawless sense of style. Top fashion labels worldwide have adopted her as a favorite due to her constantly impeccable sense of style.

“It’s a privilege to represent the richness and diversity of Indian culture, whether through art, cinema, or fashion. I am extremely proud to be India’s global representative. The South Asians I’ve met overseas likewise enjoy showing off their culture and are appreciative when others recognize and acknowledge it. I seize any chance to highlight the magnificence and depth of Indian culture, whether it is via red carpets, museums, or other venues” said the stunning actress.
