Soumyajit Majumdar’s Debut Film #Homecoming is Both Cosmopolitan and Musical
A press meet was organized for actor turned director Soumyajit Majumdar’s episodic film #Homecoming. The trilingual film has been shot in English, Bengali and Hindi. The final leg of the shoot for the film was concluded in the third week of January. The first leg of the schedule was completed in February 2020.
This is the debut film of Soumyajit Majumdar. Speaking at the event, the director said “I wanted to make a film of my own after working for quite some time in films. This is not a typical Bengali film but a film revolving around Kolkata. This is a cosmopolitan film. It is also a musical. The main language of the film is the rhythm of the film”.
#Homecoming is an episodic cinema that narrates the reunion of a theatre group after seven years during a Durga Puja night.
Sayani Gupta highlighted the fact that this is her second Bengali film. The film was special for her because all the actors in the film were from a theatre background. She also highlighted how she bunked classes to go for theatre rehearsals.
More than 30 actors from Bollywood and Tollywood featured in the film. The cast consists of Sayani Gupta, Hussain Dalal, Tushar Pandey, Soham Majumdar, Plabita Borthakur, Tuhina Das, Pujarini Ghosh, Sayan Ghosh, Priyanka Mondal, Apratim Chatterjee, and others.
Tuhina Das knew the director for more than five years and she said that there was no reason to say no to this film. She also highlighted that there was great energy on the sets of the film.
The original Hindi songs have been written and composed by Sameer Rahat and the Bengali songs have been composed by Satyaki Banerjee. Neil Mukherjee has composed the background score of the film.
The film according to the director is a musical love letter to the city of Kolkata.
