Sylvan Reverie- A Great Blend Of Nostalgia & Rejuvenation

Sylvan Reverie, the third solo exhibition by visual artist Ms. Natasha Datta Roy, opened at the Academy of Fine Arts (South Gallery). The exhibition captures the delicate balance between nostalgia and rejuvenation via a profoundly reflective investigation of nature, memory, and belonging.
Prominent artists Ms. Gita Bhattacharya, Ms. Arunima Choudhury, Ms. Sarbani Ganguly, and Mr. Ashoke Dutta attended the opening of Sylvan Reverie, bringing elegance and coziness to the event.
Inspired by the verdant forests, undulating hills, and serene sights of Natasha’s childhood in the Northeast as well as the various vistas she saw while traveling, Sylvan Reverie takes viewers on an intimate journey through her emotional and visual landscapes. With trees, roots, and branches emerging as metaphors for life, entangled, ever-growing, and rooted by the enduring roots of home and memories, the collection displays a deep relationship with nature. A silent conversation between the artist’s current urban surroundings and the lush landscapes of her past is established by the recurring motif of leafless trees. These shapes, which mimic the timeless rhythm of nature, represent resiliency, patience, and the promise of renewal rather than devastation.
Natasha explores themes of nostalgia, hope, separation, and reunion in her evocative body of work. Each painting is a doorway into her inner world, a place where memory and emotion converge and where life’s quiet tenacity continues to inspire metamorphosis.
The artist’s teacher, the late Shri Ashoke Ganguly, and the Assamese superstar, the late Shri Zubeen Garg, whose lives and legacies greatly influenced her artistic path, were honored in this exhibition. During the inauguration, there was a one-minute silence as a sign of respect before the lamp-lighting ceremony.
Fundamentally, Sylvan Reverie is a celebration of beauty that transcends change, distance, and time, as well as a literary meditation and a respectful tribute to the enduring relationship between humans and the environment.
The show will remain open until October 31, 2025, from 1 to 8 p.m.
