Tata Steel Chess India’s Trophy Unveiled; Second Edition of Chess Meet Part of Grand Chess Tour

TATA STEEL CHESS India, RAPID & BLITZ 2019 will be organizing the first GCT tournament ever to be held in Asia. A press meet was organized to announce this tournament and also unveil the trophy. The press meet was graced by Mr Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice-President, Corporate Services, Tata Steel, Mr Bharat Singh Chauhan, Secretary, AICF and Mr Jeet Banerjee, Director, Gameplan Sports Pvt Ltd. Dibyendu Barua graced the occasion and unveiled the trophy.

The tournament will bring eight of the world’s top 15 Grandmasters and the top three Indian players to Kolkata. This tournament from 2019 has become part of the Grand Chess Tour.

Current World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen and other Grandmasters who will be participating include Vishwanathan Anand, Ding Liren, Levon Aronian, Anish Giri, Wesley So, Hikaru Nakamura, Ian Nepomniachtchi and wildcards Pentala Harikrishna, Vidit Gujrathi.

This is the second edition of Tata Steel Chess India.

The tournament will begin from 22nd November and continue till 26th November. In keeping with the stature of the event, the venue of the event is the Bhasha Bhawan Auditorium at National Library.
