A press conference was organized to announce the inauguration of the 108th Foundation Day Celebration of the Zoological Survey Of India.

The inauguration will be done by the Hon’ble Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, Bhupender Yadav on the 1st of July 2023. He will announce the opening of the Animal Taxonomy Summit-2023 organized by the ZSI.

It will take place at the East End Pavilion of Nicco Park, Salt Lake, Kolkata.

At the event, the celebrations will revolve around Mission Life (Mission Lifestyle for Environment) where ZSI will reach out to people across India with a message for environment protection with the help of street plays, public events, and seminars.

A cultural program will be organized to highlight environmental issues.

The Hon’ble Minister will release the Animal Discoveries 2022 which consists of more than 600 new species and new records added to the total list of animals for the country. He will be releasing publications on 75 wetland fauna of India and 75 endemic birds of India to commemorate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

Three MoUs will be signed between ZSI and leading institutions and the Royal Govt of Bhutan. It will help in fostering interest among the youth in research studies in biodiversity and taxonomy.

The Animal Taxonomy Summit 2023 is the first of its kind in India and will see participation from 400 delegates across India and abroad. Research papers presented during this summit will be published as a special volume of the Records of Zoological Survey of India.

The three-day summit will conclude on 3rd July. The recommendations of the summit will be conveyed to the Govt of India.
