3rd Edition Of Hope & Heal Cancer Survivors Meet Highlighted On Equity In Cancer Care
There is hope that cancer can be cured if diagnosed early enough and treated appropriately. Dr. Saptarshi Ghosh returned to Siliguri with the intention of starting an oncology practice, but he was unaware of the state of cancer care in the region, which had significant unmet needs.
Those who could afford it flew long distances to Kolkata and beyond in search of a cure, while those who couldn’t be left to their fate. Dr. Ghosh knew something had to be done, but he knew he couldn’t do it alone – restore hope and make a difference in the lives of thousands of people. He set out to create a thriving ecosystem, which was aided greatly by the Bengal government’s Swasthya Saathi universal health insurance program.
The 3rd edition of Hope & Heal Cancer Survivors Meet held on March 27th in Siliguri was organized to raise awareness about cancer care, and brought together eminent personalities from all walks of life, healthcare professionals, and brave hearts who beat cancer with a little help from Dr. Ghosh. The cancer survivors took turns sharing their inspiring stories of grit, determination, and courage.
Dr. Ghosh recognizes that this is only the beginning and that much more needs to be done. “My goal is to eliminate the need for anyone to travel outside Bengal in order to receive better diagnosis and treatment. And ensure ‘equity in cancer care,’ with everyone having the right to treatment regardless of their financial situation” said Dr. Ghosh.
Siliguri Mayor Gautam Deb inaugurated the program.
The evening ended on a high note, with everyone swaying to national award-winning singer Iman Chakraborty’s electrifying performance.
