From January 13 to 20, 2025, the Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau (PCEB) is excited to host the 8th Edition of the Penang Roadshow to India 2025. Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, when it was conducted virtually for two years in a row, this yearly event, which was started in 2017, has never missed a beat. The roadshow demonstrates PCEB’s dedication to fortifying its relationship with the Indian market, which is a major participant in Penang’s business events and tourist industries.

The roadshow this year is themed “Discover Penang”. They will be visiting four major Indian cities Mumbai (13th January), New Delhi (15th January), Kolkata (17th January), and Chennai (20th January). About 200 buyers and 30 media representatives visit each location, offering a vibrant setting for interaction and cooperation.

Ashwin Gunasekeran, Chief Executive Officer of PCEB, YB Wong Hon Wai, Penang State Executive Councillor for Tourism and Creative Economy, and Datin Bharathi Suppiah, Director of PCEB and General Manager of CMI graced the press conference in Kolkata.

The new direct connectivity between Penang and Chennai via IndiGo Airlines, which is revolutionary for Penang and the Indian market, is one of the highlights of the 2025 roadshow. Traveling is made easier by this direct trip, which also opens up new business and leisure prospects. Chennai’s advantageous location makes it an essential connecting hub, providing passengers from 32 domestic Indian cities—including Bengaluru, Delhi, Kolkata, and Mumbai—with easy access to Penang. These flights are a desirable choice for both business and leisure visitors because they also include a luggage allowance of 30 kg.

Furthermore, till December 31, 2026, Malaysia has formally extended its visa exemption for Indian nationals. This exemption greatly simplifies the travel process by allowing Indian tourists to enter Malaysia for a maximum of 30 days without a visa. The new regulation gives Indian tourists easy access to Penang’s varied offerings and further increases Malaysia’s allure as a travel destination.

For Malaysia, India is a crucial sourcing market. Malaysia exceeded its goal of one million Indian visitors in 2024, receiving 1,009,114 from January to November. This outstanding accomplishment, which is a 71.7% growth over 2023, confirms Malaysia’s position as a top tourist destination for Indians. The roadshow intends to support these figures even more by highlighting Penang’s strategic efforts and distinctive features.

Penang continues to be a bright spot for global cooperation and development because of its rich history, dynamic culture, and top-notch infrastructure, guaranteeing a prosperous future for all parties.
