The Australian delegation at KIFF 2018 met with the press at the Media Centre at Nandan.

The delegates consisted of actor Simon Baker, director Garth Davis, producer Sue Maslin, writer Christos Tsiolkas, Oscar nominated editor Jill Bilcock, producer Jamie Hilton, director Philip Noyce and others.

Speaking about the connection between India and Australia, Garth Davis said “One of the most common factors between the two countries is cricket. This is one thing that the British has given to both the countries as a result of their colonialism”.

Philip Noyce mentioned that Australian films are not censored like Indian films.

Simon Baker whose film Breath was screened at the festival mentioned that he was having a great time at the festival. “I am very delighted at the fact that you all have a great culture for films and you not only love your filmy culture but also give the same status to the films from other countries. My film will be shown here and I am just waiting for the feedback from you guys” said the eminent actor-director.

Australia has a small film industry and to be able to make a film there is a huge opportunity for the makers, added Simon Baker.

With Australian cinema also completing their hundred years in 2018 like Bengali cinema, it is indeed great that their delegation was present at KIFF 2018.
