‘
Siraj ud-Daulah was the last independent Nawab of Bengal. This is one fact that most of us are aware of from our study of our history books. But many known and unknown facts about the man that he was and about his life will be shown in the upcoming Bengali serial Ami Sirajer Begum.
A press meet was organized which was graced by Badshah, Sean Banerjee, Pallabi Dey, Rana Sarkar and others.
The life of Siraj ud-Daulah will be shown by revealing the untold tale of Begum Lutfunnisa. She was a bonded slave girl who later on became the Nawab’s most favourite Begum. Though she remained confined within the Jenana Mahal but she made her presence felt in the royal politics of 18th century Bengal. She guided her husband with her presence of mind.
The costumes and the sets have been made in details so that the Nawabi style is reflected and one can feel the aura of the Nawabs of that era.
The show is made by DAG Creative Media.
Lutfunnisa’s character will be played by Pallabi Dey while Siraj’s chacarcter will be enacted by Sean Banerjee. Badshah plays Mir Jafar while Chandreyee Ghosh plays the role of Ghaseti Begum.
Badhshah said “I have played good characters many times. Even many audiences have shed tears when the character had died. I wanted to do a character which was shaded and not the typical good person. Mir Jafar fits the bill perfectly. His name is synonymous with the word traitor in Bengal. Killing a Nawab for the throne was very common. But they never had repentance. But he repented it. This made him different. This is one interesting character to portray”.
Sean Banerjee described that the offer as a huge responsibility on him and that he had never thought that he will be bestowed with such a role so early in his career. The actor mentioned that he had been trying to understand the Nawab’s personality so that he could portray him with ease on the big screen.
The serial will be aired from 10th December onward on Star Jalsha SD and HD, Monday to Saturday at 9.30 pm.
