In the book, the author described her first-hand experiences with the survivors as she walks the path of recovery with them. She was trying to provide insight into the way forward for the survivors, disaster prevention, and control through the detailed observations. It also shows the psychological trauma that occurs with a mass crisis like 26/11.

The stories show the complexities prevalent in Indian society and even in the same problem, each survivor has a different rate of recovery.
