Documentary Dance Of The Forests Dedicated To Artists Of The Chotanagpur Plateau

Directed by Amjad Kaji, the documentary Dance of the Forests was shown at the 27th Kolkata International Film Festival. The concept of the film is by the director.

The team of the film consisting of producer Sharmila Mazumdar graced the occasion.

Ahmad Kaji earlier documentary was Code Named Red (2014) which showed the untold stories and perspectives from the Maoist insurgency in Bengal.

The film is dedicated to the artists of the Chotanagpur Plateau. With this documentary, the director wants to reminisce and revive the traditional dances of the Chotanagpur Plateau that are on the brink of oblivion. Some of the dance forms that have been showcased in the film are Chhau, Naachni, Natua, Machhani, Shardul, Deheng, Shikar Naach, and other dances.

Speaking at the press conference, the producer said “Our hope is to show this film to the artists of the Chotanagpur Plateau in whose lives the film has been made. We also hope that the dancers are benefitted from this film”.

The script and screenplay are by Soma Basu.

The editor of the film is Animesh Bose.

The music has been composed by Tirtha Sundar Biswas.

The research for the film has been done by Kiriti Mahato.

The duration of the film is 52 minutes.
