Apollo Cancer Centre, Kolkata treated a 63-year-old elderly male through Stereotactic Ablative Body Radiotherapy (SABR) without surgery. The patient was diagnosed with Intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinoma also known as Bile Duct Cancer.

A press meet was organized to announce this surgery and treatment procedure. It was graced by Dr. Sayan Paul, Senior Radiation Oncologist, Apollo Hospitals, and Dr. Shaikat Gupta, Director- Surgical Oncologist, Apollo Cancer Centre, Kolkata.

SABR is a technique in which high energy X-Ray is focused on the cancer cells in an organ for eliminating them completely.

Initially, the doctors thought of going with surgery for treating the Bile Duct cancer. However, due to age and other health complications, they realized that it could only be treated with SABR. 5 sessions of SABR were used for treating the patient.

The patient is completely cured of cancer and is leading a healthy life.

The cost of the treatment was Rs 1, 80, 000.
