Jhora Palok Combines Narration With Scholarly Research Work To Show The Life Of Jibanananda Das
The press conference of debutant director Sayantan Mukherjee’s film “Jhora Palok- The Epilogue” took place in the presence of Bratya Basu, Jaya Ahsan, Pawan Kanodia, Poulomi Das, Tanika Basu, Subhashree Kar, and Sayantan Mukherjee.
Jhora Palok was the title of Jibanananda Das’s first collection of poems. The film is a biopic inspired by the life and works of the poet. It is neither a plain narrative nor a scholarly research work but a worthy attempt at combining both.
Jibanananda’s poetic development is followed by writer and director Sayantan Mukherjee, who also pays close attention to the poet’s psycho-sexual changes. Sayantan highlights the radical changes in diction, theme, and prosodic structure that Jibanananda’s poetry signaled. By doing this, he effectively highlights the larger literary context in which Jibanananda had to swim against the current. Jibanananda’s private life has been examined, and it is through this examination that some fictional elements enter.
The cast of the film consists of Bratya Basu as Jibanananda Das, Jaya Ahsan as Labanyaprabha Das, Rahul Arunoday Banerjee as Young Jibanananda, Debshankar Halder as Sajanikanta Das, Kaushik Sen as Buddhadeb Basu, Biplab Banerjee as Premen Mitra, Shantilal Mukherjee as Satyananda Das, Srila Mujumdar as Kusum Kumari Das, Padmanabha Dasgupta as Sudhindranath Dutta, Pawan Kanodia as D K Gupta and Sudipta Chatterjee as Samer Sen.
Jaya Ahsan said “The film is different with a varied film language. Jhora Palok was screened at the Kolkata International Film Festival and received much praise. The film is just like the poems of Jibananda Das. It is full of love and the audiences will love it”.
Bratya Basu was initially scared about his role. “I knew that even if I could take out the time for the film, portraying Jibanananda onscreen was a huge challenge. He lived a private life and even had misunderstandings with his wife. I have tried my best to portray him onscreen. Hope that the audience loves the portrayal of this poet”.
Poulomi Das plays the role of Jibanananda’s sister. “I am glad that I got the chance to portray such a character. This is a great role in my career. The brother-sister relationship that will be shown in the film will help the audience to understand the man better.
The music of the film was composed by Satyaki Banerjee.
Produced by AVA Film Productions Pvt. Ltd. & Presented by Pawan Kanodia.
The film is releasing on 24th June.
