Sheesh Mahal in Jaipur is a living example of how the times have changed and how the cityscape has changed. What was the purpose and necessity for Sheesh Mahal’s construction in ancient Rajasthan? This is a question that a lot of people ask.

In the past, this Mahal was constructed out of glass since the queen was not allowed to sleep outside, and she loved stargazing at night. The king then instructed his architects to create that kind of palace that could resolve the issue. The Sheesh Mahal was constructed with stones and glass. At night, the reflection of two candles in the glass gave the entire room the appearance of stars. The second factor was the need for a palace.

The King used to shift from Sukh Niwas to Sheesh Mahal during the winter months. The ceiling mirror glass gives the reflection of the candles and kept the room warm.
