The press conference for the 50^th anniversary of Chetana, a renowned theatre group took place recently in the presence of Arun Mukherjee, Bikram Dasgupta, Debshankar Halder, Subhasis Mukherjee, Anirban Chakraborty, Sujan Mukhopadhyay, and Suman Mukhopadhyay.

Chetana will be completing its 50^th year on 22^nd November.

The founder Arun Mukhopadhyay started this theatre group with the drama Marich Sangbad. The theatre group since its inception has performed 40 full-length plays and 12 small plays in their 50 years journey. Some of the popular plays that this theatre group has performed include Jagannath, Tista Parer Brittanto, Mephisto, Ghashiram Kotwal, Wrong Number, KhotaKhot, Don Taake Bhalo Laage, and many more.

To celebrate the feat of completing the fifty years run, a theatre festival has been announced from 18^th to 23rd November.

Marich Sangbad will be performed again by renowned actors like Debshankar Halder, Anirban Bhattacharya, Meghnad Bhattacharya, Koushik Chatterjee, Subhasis Mukherjee, Surojit Banerjee, Shantilal Mukherjee, Supriyo Dutta,  and many more.

Jagannath will also be performed at this theatre festival.

Speaking at the press conference, Subhasis Mukherjee said “Whatever little I know about acting, it is due to my association with this group. I am eternally grateful to Arun Mukherjee for guiding me. There were times when I used to copy him. But alas I could not reach up to his level of acting. What is interesting is that Sujan who is a good actor is also a good director as well. This has been quite a revelation for me”.

Anirban Chakraborty who played Marich in the play Marich Sangbad said that he was glad to be a part of this theatre festival. “It was Arun Mukherjee who gave me the chance to act in theatre. I was a newbie then and his guidance has been very helpful in my acting career” added the actor.

The festival will be supported by the Bikram Dasgupta Foundation.
