Olympic Gold Medalist Neeraj Chopra Announced ‘Friendship Ambassador’ Of Switzerland

Friendship-Ambassador

Neeraj Chopra, an Olympic gold winner, has been named the “Friendship Ambassador” by Switzerland Tourism. In his new position, the gifted Indian sports celebrity will introduce and advertise to Indian tourists Switzerland’s thrilling, active, and breathtaking outdoors.

Chopra frequently visits Switzerland for competitions and training, but this time, after his season was over, India’s newest sports icon spent his days unwinding there while still doing what he loves most—getting the heart rate up! Interlaken, Zermatt, and Geneva were a few of Chopra’s favorite places to travel.

Following his victory in the Diamond League Championships in Zurich in September of this year, Neeraj and his closest friends traveled to a destination that catered to his sense of adventure. His itinerary included everything, from mountain biking, hiking, paragliding, and a helicopter tour in Zermatt to canyoning, skydiving, and jetboating in Interlaken as well as snow scooters and sleds on the Jungfraujoch. However, he had other holiday joys besides adventure. He also went to Geneva, where he explored on a special running trip and an e-tuk-tuk tour that took him to the United Nations and to Gandhi’s statue to pay respects to the country’s founding father. However, Neeraj Chopra, being Neeraj Chopra, capped things off with a river rafting tour down to the iconic Lake Geneva to see Geneva’s famous landmark – the Jet d’eau.

As the “Friendship Ambassador” for Switzerland Tourism, Chopra will use his experiences there to promote the nation as the greatest for outdoor activities including hiking, bicycling, mild and intense adventure, and of course, snow sports, for both novices and seasoned professionals.

In September of this year, the athlete also gave his gold-winning javelin to The Olympic Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland. The International Olympic Committee established a museum in 1993 that uses sports as the primary component to illustrate the depth and diversity of Olympism through history, culture, design, technology, and sociology. Both Dhyan Chand’s hockey and Mary Kom’s gloves were already on display at the Museum.
