Samaresh Basur Projapoti-A Contemporary Take On The Novel Projapoti
Director Subrata Sen’s film Samaresh Basur Projapoti (The Lord of Creations) is a contemporary take on the famous Bengali novel Projapoti written by Samaresh Basu. The novel got banned in 1967 on the grounds of obscenity.
The story of the film is about the changes of a young boy into a hooligan. The story shows the three stages in the life of the main protagonist Sukhen. His journey is highlighted through the milieu of a small town in Bengal.
The press conference for this film took place at 28th KIFF in the presence of the director, Subrata Dutta, Mumtaz Sorcar, Sritama Dey, producer Bhavik M Pandya, and others.
Speaking at the press conference, the director said “I have contemporized the novel and have set the film in the 1990s. So whatever changes I have done is to make it suitable for this change that I have done. The fact that was obscene in 1967 is not a problem now. Audiences have grown and matured and they can take in these things more comfortably now than before”.
Mumtaz Sorcar who had worked with the director shared that she always had a great time shooting in his films. “Though he makes very few films, the ones he makes are fantastic and will blow the minds of the audiences. It makes an amazing impact” added the actress.
The film has been shot in Purulia. “When you read the story, you understand that it is set in the suburbs. So I thought of shooting the film in Purulia. We also took auditions there and those individuals acted in the film as well. That lent an element of authenticity to the film” said the director.
The cinematography has been done by Basab Mullik.
The music has been composed by Arob Dey Chowdhury.
The duration of the film is 145 minutes.
