Ami Biplab is a biography detailing the path of seasoned film and stage performer of actor Biplab Chattopadhyay and written by eminent author and journalist, Suman Gupta.

It was released in the presence of Biplab Chattopadhyay, Prosenjit Chattopadhyay, Suman Gupta, Sandip Ray, Subhasish Mukherjee, Subrata Bhattacharya, Diptangshu Mandal, Proprietor, Deep Prakashan.

Pratidwandi, directed by Satyajit Ray, set the stage for Biplab Chattopadhyay’s film debut. He has appeared in more than 200 movies and is well known for playing villains in Bengali movies. He has demonstrated interest in socio-political activities in addition to his profession in movies. He ran for assembly in 1998 from the Rashbehari constituency and again in 2006 from the Alipore constituency.

The book is an interesting read because it chronicles the septuagenarian artist’s numerous remarkable and untold occurrences. Additionally, the book includes some unique images documenting Chatterjee’s early life and career as a filmmaker.

“I have known Biplab Chattopadhyay since he was a young man, and he has done rather well with his movies and the parts he has portrayed. He shared a number of amusing anecdotes while recounting his life’s events, which I have included in this book. He is among the best actors” said Suman Gupta.

Speaking at the event, Subhasish Mukherjee said “Biplab da has had a great effect on my life. Whatever little I know about public relations, it is from him. He is a man who never sugarcoats his words. That is why he is often not liked by many people. However, he is a genuine person who is always there to help others”.

Prosenjit Chatterjee became nostalgic while speaking about Biplab Chattopadhyay. “I know him from a young age. I performed a play with him and since then I have been acquainted with this man. More than a great actor, I will like to highlight that he is a great human being who is always ready to stay beside you in times of need. He is a multifaceted personality and directors must again cast him as he has so much more to offer to audiences” said the actor.

‘Aami Biplab’, published by Deep Prakashan is priced at Rs 450/-. It will be available across retail bookshops and various online platforms.
