The British Deputy High Commission Kolkata felicitated the women’s football team of East Bengal Club at Sister Nivedita University (SNU), New Town.

This was part of their program to commemorate International Women’s Day this year.

“Britain’s new gender strategy has a strong emphasis on empowering women,” said Peter Cook, Acting British Deputy High Commissioner to Kolkata. “In order to fully honor the women in our society, I was so happy to stand in solidarity with Sister Nivedita University in Kolkata today. Also, I had the privilege of meeting the East Bengal Women’s Football team and loved hearing about the many campaigns and examples of female leadership. I’m thrilled to add my voice to the chorus of women who are fighting for true equality” said Mr. Cook.

Prof. (Dr). Dhrubajyoti Chattopadhyay, Vice Chancellor, of Sister Nivedita University said “The same energy that created this planet exists in two different forms in men and women. Hence, I believe that if we could eliminate prejudices and make everyone aware of this timeless fact, the world would be a much better place to live. Women’s Day and Men’s Day shouldn’t be observed anymore. Instead, we should celebrate a day for all of humanity”.

During the program, Debasmita Ghosh, Associate Director, Accenture gave a talk on ‘Gender Equality through financial and digital empowerment of Women’.

The women players spoke about their journey, struggles, and their future plans as a footballer. They highlighted that their next aim is to win the IWL.

The women players of the SNU were also felicitated at the event.

The event served as a motivation to young women and also highlighted their contributions in their respective fields.
