“My Next Film Is A Musical With 8 Songs And A Big Cast”- Chandan Roy Sanyal
Suzie Q, the directorial debut of Chandan Roy Sanyal, was screened at the Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) in 2023.
Director Chandan Roy Sanyal, Parno Mittrah, and producer Sanjay Kumar Pal graced the press conference of the film at the 29th KIFF.
When Suzie Q, at 40, travels to her ex-husband’s destination wedding with intense hallucinations, she falls on a strange and perilous adventure where reality becomes hazy.
The film follows the story of Suzie Q, the main character portrayed by the talented and multifaceted actress Parno Mittrah.
Speaking at the event, Parno Mittrah said “One day Chandan gave me a call and asked what I was doing. I said nothing. He asked whether I would act in his film and I said yes. It is in this way that I agreed to act in this film. I have worked with him in Urojahaj so I was aware of his working style as an actor. With this film, I understood him as a director”.
The actress also added that no one was giving her interesting characters. But with this film, she could portray someone with such different shades.
The film’s cast consists of Prakash Jha, Sangeet Sivan, Umesh Jagtap, Kishtee Jog, and Priya Banerjee amongst others.
The film was written by Juhi Shekhar, directed by Chandan Roy Sanyal, and produced by Sanjay Kumar Pal under the banner of Vibrant Media.
The director said “I have been writing for some time and finally I got the chance to make my debut film. Many people were asking why I wanted to make a film when my acting career was going well. But it is hard to make people understand that when you want to create something, you have to do it eventually. Only then can you be satisfied”.
He also added that whenever he was writing the stories, he felt that the main character should be that of a woman. “The portrayal of women in most films often becomes limited to certain roles. But with Suzie Q, I wanted to show that a seemingly innocent woman can also be a killer” said Chandan Roy Sanyal.
Suzie Q’s music has been composed by Manish Tipu and Vishal Bharadwaj.
The film has been selected under the Competition on Indian Language Films.
This Hindi film is 105 minutes long.
