Great Connect With Root Music Through Sahaj Parav
The sixth season of Sahaj Parav was organized at the prestigious Indian Museum, Kolkata. Gracing the event were Lopamudra Mitra, Joy Sarkar, and others.
Due to the pandemic, Sahaj Parav could not be organized during those years. Hence, this was the sixth edition of this reputed root music festival.
Speaking about the festival, Lopamudra Mitra said “Our main target is to make the younger generation aware of their root music and what it has to offer. They must be aware of their culture and traditions. This festival is truly an amazing presentation of two generations of musicians. We have Anathbondhu Ghosh and Bipul Chhetri”.
The inaugural event saw energetic Dhol performances, and also a band performing music using discarded items.
Living legend Anathbondhu Ghosh was felicitated and he performed Geetgovindam at the event on the first day.
The inaugural day also saw performances like the Gotipua Dance of Odisha and Gondhali, a traditional folk rendition by Haridas Sindhe (Maharashtra).
The second day’s performances included Chari, Kalbeliya, and Kachi Ghodi dance and folk songs by Bundu Khan and his group from Rajasthan, and Himalayan folk music with a contemporary touch by Bipul Chhetri and the traveling band.
Sahaj Parav indeed was a wonderful celebration of root music for two days and kept the audiences engaged.
