Where do the people of Kolkata draw the line in the tumultuous dance of politics and love? The popular dating app happn recently carried out a poll that revealed some intriguing information on the relationship between politics and romance.

Every corner of Kolkata’s bustling streets seems to be alive with tales of politics, love, and life. Remarkably, most singles in Kolkata don’t think that romance has changed the political winds, according to a recent poll by Happn. 86% of people think that having different political opinions isn’t a deal-breaker. Although a majority of those aged 26-35 accept a range of political affiliations, 58% of them are adamantly against opposing partnerships. The elder age group, those over 36, does not appear to be influenced by politics when it comes to dating.

There is a wide range of perspectives on activism. Women over 36 are driving this trend, with 72% of them welcoming partners who are committed to changing the world. Strong political beliefs are regarded by 34% of adults in the 18–25 age group and 40% of adults in the 26–35 age group as essential characteristics of a spouse. Women are once again setting the standard higher, particularly those in the 26–35 age range, where 43% of them value a partner’s political expertise.

67% of respondents in Delhi, spanning all age categories, think that a political divide shouldn’t stop love in its tracks. According to 44% of Gen Zs (18–25), they are more inclined to stray from their political beliefs in the name of love, whereas 66% of seasoned romantics (36 and older) are only marginally apprehensive about dating with conflicting political ideas.

Thoughts on politics and love appear to be as varied in Hyderabad as in the city itself. Although younger people are still generally accepting of political differences in partnerships, as people get older, a distinct division appears. There’s a noticeable tendency for political alignment among millennials, particularly among men; 56% of gentlemen over the age of 36 think love must succeed.

Sixty-six percent of our Indian singles are looking for a mate who shares their fervor for activism and Netflix binges. In Mumbai, an astounding 75% of respondents said they would be willing to accept partners who have a strong political inclination.

A whopping 88% of Happn singles are getting ready to rock the vote as election season approaches! Happn has proactively started a program within their app to encourage Indian youngsters, gently reminding users to Stop Crushing & Go Voting on election days.

So get inked up and head out to vote with your crush at your side.
